... What is
prostate cancer and who does it affect?, read on to find out.
The
question "what is prostate cancer?" is a fairly common one since it
affects millions of people worldwide. Doctors diagnose this condition on
a regular basis and that is the question most of their patients ask
upon diagnosis. In this article we answer the common question what is
prostate cancer.
Prostate
cancer occurs when cells in the prostate gland start to grow in an
abnormal manner. There is no single cause of prostate cancer however a
number of factors are involved in the development of this condition. The
good news about prostate cancer is that it can be treated quite easily
if detected in its early stages, the bad news is if the cancer has reached a
late stage and spread to other parts of the body it can be fatal.
There are
many factors involved in the development of prostate cancer. It has
been noted that 30% of all cancer victims suffer from prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is also more prevalent in black males than it is in
white males. The risk factor of developing prostate cancer increases
significantly as you get older. Men in China are at lowest risk of
developing prostate cancer whilst, Scandinavian men seem to have the
highest risk of developing this disease.
It is
recommended that men over the age of fifty have yearly check ups for
prostate cancer, since they have a higher risk of developing this condition.
Prostate cancer is hard to detect, but going for regular check ups will
allow a doctor to detect prostate cancer in its early stages. Young men
have a low risk of developing prostate cancer, statistics state that
only 9% of men in their twenties develop prostate cancer. However if
you are young and suffer from the symptoms of prostate cancer you
should speak to a doctor immediately.
