How to Play Sudoku
To
a Sudoku newbie, Sudoku puzzles can look quite frightening, you may
think you need to be good at mental arithmentic in order to complete
one, however this is a common myth. In order to solve Sudoku you only
need to use logic. It doesnt matter whether you are a child or an
adult, all you are doing is strategically placing numbers in squares,
and if you follow some simple rules you wont have much trouble solving
a Sudoku puzzle.
When playing Sudoku, your aim is to complete all the blank squares in
the grid with the correct numbers. However it's not as simple as that
because there are three conditions that you have to stick to. We'll
look at the conditions of a 9x9 Sudoku square, since these are the most
popular type.
- The numbers 1 - 9 must appear only
once in every row of 9 numbers, in any order.
- The numbers 1 - 9 must appear
only once in every column of 9 numbers, in any order.
- The numbers 1
- 9 must appear only once in every 3x3 region within the 9x9 square.
These conditions apply for the various sizes of Sudoku grid, i.e a 12 x
12 Sudoku grid must have the numbers 1 - 12 in each row, column and
region. As you can see the conditions are not too hard to remember and
once yo know what they are you are ready to begin trying to solve your
Sudoku puzzle.
When you start a Sudoku puzzle you will find that the grid has a
certain amount of squares that are already filled in with numbers. This
is a big factor in determining the difficulty of a Sudoku puzzle ,
because generally speaking the less numbers that are filled in
initially, the harder the puzzle will be.
As you fill in each of the missing squares, it gets easier to fill in
the the remaining because there are less options to choose from
to find the numbers in the missing squares.
