The cause of eczema is still a mystery to the medical world. However the factors that can worsen this condition are well documented. The symptoms of eczema are also well documented and whether you're an eczema suffer or not it is likely you have come across these symptoms, (either in yourself or someone you know), as eczema is quite a common disease. The most common symptoms tend to be red, itchy, dry skin. In this article we will be taking a closer look at the symptoms of eczema.

In a previous article we talked about different types of eczema including the most common type, atopic dermatitis. This type of eczema has many of the characteristics associated with the various other types of eczema we discussed. This includes itching that gets worse when scratched amd skin sensitivity.

Itching is one of the most commons symptoms associated with eczema. It is also accompanied by a rash. It is possible to suffer severe itching without a rash, but if this is the case it's more than likely that you are not suffering from eczema. Fortunately this common symptom (itching) can be eliminated with medication leaving just the rash.

It is important to bare in mind that the presence of a severe itch is not the basis for diagnosis of eczema, because itching is a symptom of many other skin conditons, however if a rash is also apparent it is more likely that you are suffering from eczema.

Another common syptom of eczema is redness. This is caused by an increase in bloodflow. It is also accompanied by inflammation. There are many factors that cause redness and infllammation, one of them is if the skin is infected by bacteria, possibly from your nails when itching the rash.

Another common symptom of eczema is blisters. In certain types of eczema blisters can appear on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. Blisters are usually small but in rare cases they can be larger. This can happen as a result of the type of eczema you have or an infection in the skin linked to the eczema. Blisters that form as a direct result of a skin infection tend be filled with fluid rather than pus.
