Chest Pain - Depression is also known to cause chest pain in some cases. If you do suffer from any sort of chest pain it is recommended that you visit your doctor immediately as this could be a sign of a serious heart condition. Sleeping problems - Another physical symptom of depression is not being able to sleep well. People with this condition may sleep excessively or may not be able to get enough sleep at all. Digestive problems - Depression can also have an affect on the digestive system. It can cause the sufferer to feel nauseous, and it can also cause diarrhea and consipation. Fatigue - This physical symptom is common in people who are depressed. It makes them feel like they are constantly tired, regardless of how much sleep they have had. Change in eating habits and weight - Some depression sufferers lose their appetite, whilst others gain more of an appetite and binge on sugary foods. As a result they either lose or gain weight. Diziness - Some depressed people find that their condition causes them to feel bouts of dizziness, usually after waking up in the morning, and during the day. Many people who suffer from the physical symptoms of depression have no idea that they are depressed, so they do not seek medical help. In some cases doctors may not realise these symptoms are caused by depression, because these symptoms can have several other causes. As you can see depression is not only limited to mental symptoms, knowing this can aid an individual in understanding depression. |
